Aaron Ramsdale mistake ‘worse than David de Gea’ as error sees Arsenal drop points against Southampton

Aaron Ramsdale had a moment to forget after gifting Southampton a shock lead just seconds into their 3-3 draw at the Emirates Stadium.
Arsenal went into the match hoping to pick up three points against the Premier League strugglers but made the worst possible start, going 1-0 down early on.
With the ball passed back to him, Ramsdale attempted to play the ball out of his penalty area but saw it intercepted by Carlos Alcaraz who slotted the ball home from the edge of the area.
An uncharacteristic error, Ramsdale’s mistake certainly had shades of David de Gea’s costly mistake against Sevilla on Thursday night.
Speaking during talkSPORT’s commentary, Sam Matterface said: “What was Ramsdale thinking?
“It was worse than De Gea last night, it was sloppy, it was casual.”
Given his stellar displays in his 35 appearances for the Gunners this term, Ramsdale is bound to be forgiven by Arsenal’s supporters.
Arsenal were hoping to strengthen their position at the top of the table as their title race with Manchester City intensifies.
However a disastrous first 66 minutes saw them 3-1 down against the relegation-threatened side.
While Martin Odegaard and Bukayo Saka did earn a 3-3 draw for the Gunners, the focus will now turn to the crunch clash with Manchester City on Wednesday night – a match that will be exclusively live on talkSPORT.
Arsenal will go into the match five points clear of City, but with Pep Guardiola’s side having two games in hand it will be a tough test to see themselves over the line in the title race.
