Arsenal fans claim Ben White was pushed into playing John Stones onside for Man City goal
Arsenal supporters are not impressed with the manner of Manchester City’s second goal at the Etihad Stadium.
With Kevin De Bruyne putting City ahead early on, Pep Guardiola’s side had been looking for a way to get the game firmly under their control and managed it in the latter stages of the first half.
A free-kick from De Bruyne was curled into the box and found John Stones who planted a firm header beyond Aaron Ramsdale to make it 2-0.
Celebrations were paused at first as the decision went to be checked by VAR, leading to concern and confusion among the supporters in attendance.
However the decision came back that Stones was in fact onside, meaning that the goal stood.
It was adjudged that Arsenal defender Ben White was responsible for playing Stones onside, putting the match firmly in City’s hands.
However some Arsenal fans are convinced that White was pushed out of position, leading Stones to be onside when the ball was played.
One supporter said: “Was Ben White being pushed so that Stones was onside?”
Another said: “It’s not even up for debate if the City player doesn’t push Ben White.”
A third Arsenal fan said: “The second goal is unfair, Ruben [Dias] pushes Ben White to make Stones onside,” while another simply said: “Surely that’s a push on Ben White?”
Things then got even worse shortly in to the second half when Haaland and De Bruyne combined once again for the Belgian star to slot home to make it 3-0.
Rob Holding pulled one back but it was only a consolation as Haaland made it 4-1 in stoppage time.
