Mikel Arteta delivers injury update on David Luiz ahead of Manchester United v Arsenal

Mikel Arteta has revealed that David Luiz will undergo fitness tests this week after he suffered an injury during the 1-0 loss to Leicester City in the Premier League on Sunday night.

The Gunners went on to lose against the Foxes after substitute Jamie Vardy score a late winner for the visitors to send Mikel Arteta’s side crashing to their third defeat in four Premier League games.

Mikel Arteta’s side will now wait to see whether David Luiz will be fit for their crunch clash against bitter rivals Manchester United at Old Trafford this weekend.

Speaking after the game, Mikel Arteta revealed that the Brazilian defender’s injury will be assessed in the coming days before the trip to face the Red Devils on Sunday.

Asked about David Luiz’s injury at his post-match news conference, Mikel Arteta said: ‘I don’t know. We’ve lost a few players in the last week or so.

‘David had a muscular problem and he couldn’t carry on – we’ll have to assess him in the next 48 hours.’

Arsenal reportedly still interested in move for Lyon’s Houssem Aouar

Arsenal are reportedly still interested in signing Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar, with Mikel Arteta’s side lack creative in their midfield park.

Despite Mikel Arteta’s side signed Thomas Partey, who his defensive prowess, and ability to drive play forward, characteristics that have been sorely lacking from the north Londoners’ ranks in the middle of the park for some time.

Despite the Ghanaian’s predicted impact, though, Mikel Arteta’s side still appear to be interested in Aouar. As per a report from the Daily Mail, citing Italian outlet Tuttosport, the Gunners remain keen on the Lyon star’s signature.

However, they are expected to face stiff competition from Juventus.

Houssem Aouar himself recently commented on his failure to secure a summer move away from the Groupama Stadium, but was quick to assure that he remains happy with Lyon: ‘I am happy, this is my city and this my club.

‘I am proud to represent this club, I have so much motivation to make a great season.

‘We made a choice, I’m happy to stay here. Aulas and Juninho convinced me to stay in Lyon.’

Koscielny defends Mesut Ozil in Arsenal row

Former Arsenal defender Laurent Koscielny has claimed that playmaker Mesut Ozil is a ‘phenomenon’ amid the attacking midfielder’s seemingly bleak future in north London.

The Ex-Real Madrid midfielder appears to have played his last game for the Gunners after being left out of Mikel Arteta’s squad for the Premier League and Europa League.

Ozil representative has since hit out at Mikel Arteta’s decision to axe the 32-year-old – claiming that the Gunners boss was not being entirely truthful about the situation – and Koscienly has also jumped to his former team-mate’s defence.

Speaking to L’Equipe, Koscielny said: ‘As a man, he’s a very good person, who got along with all his teammates.

‘He gave a lot, helped sick children. He is a generous person, with whom I got along very well. As a player, he is in my opinion a phenomenon. He can find passes that no-one sees, he’s a maestro. He can rock a game with incredible passes.

‘We’re both part of the ‘Arsene Wenger Generation’. The coach loved him as a player. It was more complicated with Unai Emery and Mikel Arteta. Knowing him, he must always be professional in training, always on time.

‘He is undoubtedly at the level demanded by the Premier League. There is probably a certain case with the club since last year, I hope both sides find a deal that works for everyone.

‘He is a competitor. I hope to see him back on the pitch soon, at Arsenal or elsewhere, because he is real talent.’
