Aston Villa set new Premier League record under Unai Emery and boast form as good as Arsenal

Aston Villa have continued their fine form under Unai Emery by setting a new Premier League scoring record.

The Villains are currently chasing a European finish, and played host to a Fulham side who are also seeking continental football.

Emery’s side have been hugely impressive in recent weeks and carried their form into the match against the Cottagers.

John McGinn’s corner was headed in by Tyrone Mings to give the hosts a deserved lead at Villa Park – the defender’s first goal since November 2021.

Villa have now scored in all 20 league games with Emery at the helm, which is the most consecutive games in Premier League history that a team with a new manager have scored in.

Such form in front of goal could help seal a mightily impressive end to the season for the club, with Emery proving his credentials once again.

Fulham showed more resilience in the second half of the match, but were unable to breach the Villa defence.

The visitors thought they drew level late on, but Mings’ own goal was ruled out for offside from Harrison Reed in the build-up.

Emery’s side were on hand to hold onto all three points, with the win taking them to 5th in the table.

They have been one of the Premier League’s most in-form sides since the former Arsenal boss took the reins in October.

Villa have not played European football since 2011, when they competed in the Europa League play-off rounds.

However, they are looking set to make a return to the continent, a deserved reward for their superb efforts under Emery.

Since Emery’s first Premier League game in charge of Aston Villa on November 6, no side has won more games in the competition than them (13 – level with Arsenal).

It is also only the Gunners (44) have picked up more points than Villa (42) during this period.
