CAF sends inspection team as Nigeria-Benin Republic look to beat Morocco, Zambia, Algeria to AFCON 2025 hosting rights

Nigeria want to host the rest of Africa in 2025 and the process is already in full swing

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has sent a team to inspect Nigerian stadiums after the NFF put forth a joint bid with Benin Republic to host the Africa Cup of Nations in 2025.

Soccernet.ng reports that the NFF/Sports Ministry are looking to bring the Nations Cup to the country for the first time since 2000. The last time that Nigeria hosted the tournament, it was a joint bid with Ghana. However, this time, it is with the neighboring Benin Republic.

To verify Nigeria’s ability to host the AFCON, CAF sent a team of inspectors to check out the stadiums that the NFF submitted as venues for the games.

The stadiums are the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja; Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo; Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba; Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos; Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City and; Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna.

After inspecting the stadiums in Nigeria, the team will then proceed to Benin Republic, where they will check out the Stade Charles de Gaulle, Porto Novo.

The other countries that have bid to host the 2025 AFCON are Algeria, Morocco, and Zambia.
