Chelsea Spent Millions To Finish 12th In EPL —Fiorentina Owner Taunt Blues
Fiorentina owner Rocco Commisso has taunted Chelsea over the amount of money spent on transfers which failed to yield result on the pitch.
Commisso made reference to Chelsea while hitting out at former Fiorentina stars Federico Chiesa and Dusan Vlahovic, who left the Stadio Franchi over the last few years to join Juventus.
Commisso insisted that Chiesa and Vlahovic joined Juventus for the money.
Chelsea were the busiest Premier League club in the January transfer window after securing eight new incomings.
In the summer they had brought in the likes of Wesley Fofana, Raheem Sterling, Kalidou Koulibaly, Marc Cucurella and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang –
While during the winter window, 2022 World Cup winner Enzo Fernandez, Malo Gusto, Joao Felix, Benoit Badiashile, David Datro Fofana, Mykhailo Mudryk, Andrey Santos and Noni Madueke were added to the squad.
Despite the massive investment on players recruitment in the two transfer windows Chelsea are 11th in the league table.
“Fiorentina will never have financial problems,” Commisso told students of the Economy University in Florence on Tuesday morning, as reported by Violanews.
“As for transfers, English clubs make all more complicated. They do the same as Juventus used to do, paying players more than their worth.
“We lost the likes of Chiesa, Vlahovic and Bernardeschi. They didn’t go to Turin for the shirt but for the money.
“Chelsea spent millions to finish 12th in the Premier League.
“At least, I spent nothing, Premier League has done incredible things, but we are doing well in Europe this season, hopefully, we’ll win [against Basel] and go ahead.”
Fiorentina will meet Basel in the second leg of the Conference League semifinal on Tuesday, one week after a 2-1 loss in Florence.
They sit 8th in the Serie A table with 49 points, nine below 7th-placed Atalanta.
