Danny Mills says Fikayo Tomori is ‘nowhere near’ good enough for England having been ‘run ragged’ by Edin Dzeko
Fikayo Tomori showed why Gareth Southgate continues to overlook him for England having been ‘run ragged’ by Edin Dzeko.
That is the view of Danny Mills, who believes the 25-year-old centre-back is ‘nowhere near’ good enough to play for the Three Lions.
Tomori, who has been capped on three occasions for England’s senior side, struggled in AC Milan‘s two Champions League legs against rivals Inter.
The Serie A giants lost 3-0 on aggregate being defeated in both games, with Inter to now face Manchester City or Real Madrid in next month’s final in Istanbul.
And Mills, who featured for England at the 2002 World Cup, believes Tomori’s performances have justified Southgate’s decision in continuously omitting him from his squads.
Speaking on talkSPORT commentary, Mills said: “There have been a lot of questions asked about Fikayo Tomori – ‘why is he not in the England side?’

“‘Why is he not this, that and the other.’
“In these two games that I have seen, he’s nowhere near it. Dzeko has run him ragged.”
Earlier on in the match, where Inter ran out 1-0 winners, Mills also criticised Tomori for allowing veteran striker Dzeko to do him for pace.
He remarked: “Dzeko vs Tomori is so one-sided.
“Tomori must be twice as quick.
“But every time in both games so far when Dzeko gets the ball, he just drops his shoulder and sits Tomori down and just waltzes past him.”
It was a match of few chances for Milan, who struggled to create anything of note in the second half with Inter comfortable for large periods of the game.
Though boss Stefano Piolo will surely be left furious after Inter defender Francesco Acerbi esacped any punishment for a stamp on Sandro Tonali.
The midfielder instantly hit the deck after the 35-year-old centre-back stepped on his foot, with VAR deciding against taking a look at the incident.
