Daren Bent ‘can’t see Frank Lampard getting another job’ following ‘appalling’ Chelsea stint

Darren Bent believes Frank Lampard could find it difficult to get another managerial job after a dismal return to Chelsea.

The Blues legend returned to Stamford Bridge on an interim basis in April following the sacking of Frank Lampard.

Success has been incredibly limited though, with Chelsea winning just once under Lampard since his return.

The former midfielder had struggled this season at Everton beforehand, and Bent does not believe he’ll find success in the managerial job market after this season.

Speaking to Andy Goldstein on talkSPORT Drive, he said: “I can’t see him getting another job.

“He’s managed eight Premier League games, eight, and lost six, it’s appalling. He’s managed ten in all competitions and lost eight.”

“I think he’s a proud man,” he replied when asked if he thinks Lampard cares, before adding: “I think he is [going into games to win them].

“But clearly there’s players that are letting him down and he feels he can’t trust.”

Goldstein listed off Thiago Silva, Christian Pulisic, Joao Felix and Kalidou Koulibaly as players who were on the bench in their 4-1 defeat against Manchester United on Thursday night, and Bent said: “Yeah but clearly he feels he can’t get a tune out of them.”

“Well that’s what your job is isn’t it, to manage?” his co-host replied, before Bent added: “But if they’re playing poorly, you can’t just play them in for the sake of it.

Goldstein responded: “No but, a prime example, you look at Crystal Palace and Roy Hodgson. I didn’t think he could turn it around but he did, same players, completely different tune out of them. Eddie Howe [Newcastle], same players…

“Yeah but some of these players that you’re talking about here were playing poorly before Frank even got there,” replied Bent.

However, Goldstein mentioned another example of managerial success, this time at Aston Villa: “Unai Emery, prime example.

“Couldn’t win for toffee under Steven Gerrard, Emery comes in, same group, flying. It’s all down to the manager.”

Following their 4-1 defeat against United, Chelsea have just one game left to play before they can call an end to a dismal season.

They face Newcastle on the final day, with the Blues currently sitting 12th in the Premier League table after finishing 3rd last season.
