Hasim Rahman Jr weighs in unofficially for Jake Paul clash despite fight being cancelled and posts new clip of social media star ‘running’ away from him in sparring

It seems Hasim Rahman Jr is unwilling to give up on his lucrative fight with Jake Paul, as he weighed in on Friday despite the contest being cancelled.

Paul was originally scheduled to fight on August 6 at Madison Square Garden against Tommy Fury, the brother of heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, but the bout fell through after the Brit was denied entry to the United States.

This is when Rahman Jr, the son of former heavyweight champion, Hasim Rahman, who knocked out Lennox Lewis, stepped up as a late replacement.

The fight was agreed at 200lbs, but earlier this week it was cancelled after it became clear to Paul’s team that Rahman Jr would not be able to make weight, even though they moved the limit to 205 lbs.

This prompted a war of words on Twitter, with both sides making various accusations and threatening to ‘expose’ one another, but either way the fight was off.

With that being said, Rahman Jr still decided to weigh-in last night, registering 206.6lbs, either in an attempt to lure Paul back to the ring or just to avoid tainting his reputation as someone who didn’t even attempt to make weight.

In fairness, it does seem that if he could get down to 206.6lbs the day before the fight that the agreed 205lbs limit would not have been out of the realm of possibility and the fight could have gone ahead.

However, it cannot be denied that he missed the initial and the renegotiated limits.

Proving he could get down in weight was not enough for Rahman Jr at this point, as he also wanted to goad Paul some more, by posting a clip of their previous sparring session.

In the clip, Paul can be seen running across the ring away from Rahman Jr, as he looks to unload a big right hand.

Rahman Jr posted the video with the caption, “Never in the history of boxing has someone pulled out a fight a week in advance over weight issues. I tried to tell y’all, “he’s a runner he’s a trackstar”.

As for what’s next for Paul, we will undoubtedly see him back in the ring soon, but it could be that he will not be fighting any ‘real boxers’, as he posted on Twitter after the Rahman Jr fight cancellation.

“First Tommy Fumbled and now Hasim Rahman Crumbled,” Paul said. “These boxers are the most difficult people to work with and continually lack professionalism and confidence to fight me.

“I apologize to all of the other fighters on the card, our partners, our team and the fans.”

In terms of other opponents, Paul has recently expressed interest in returning to crossover bouts with MMA fighters, naming Nate Diaz, Conor McGregor and Anderson Silva as potential options.
