“In football, a story can change very quickly” – Lampard to Chelsea after Brighton defeat – Chelsea Fc News

Under the interim leadership of Lampard, the Blues have suffered their third consecutive defeat as the high-flying Seagulls came from behind to claim the spoils at Stamford Bridge.

Despite Conor Gallagher’s deflected effort, Brighton’s Danny Welbeck managed to equalize before Julio Enciso scored a remarkable 30-yard strike, placing Brighton only four points away from fifth-placed Tottenham.

Chelsea, who remain in eleventh place, failed to impress, registering only eight shots compared to Brighton’s 26. Lampard did not hold back in criticizing his players, expressing his disappointment on all levels.

“The better team won. They could have won by a greater margin. They played like a team that has been together for a long time,” Lampard said. “We were not good enough. We fell short on all the basics of football – fight, run. It’s not just a matter of commitment.”

Lampard further elaborated that some players were not physically able to play back-to-back games, but the squad must be ready to step up when needed.

“We fell short as a team today. We must improve quickly. Our focus is now on the football basics,” Lampard added.

On Tuesday, Chelsea will host Real Madrid in the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final match. They must overcome a 2-0 deficit against the defending champions to advance to the semi-finals.

Lampard encouraged his players to give their best performance for the fans and bounce back from their recent defeats.

“We must understand why today went the way it did. The story can change rapidly in football. The Champions League is the pinnacle of football. We must give our all to turn the tie around,” Lampard said.
