Newcastle United player Jonjo Shelvey believes winger Allan Saint-Maximin can play for teams like Real Madrid. Shelvey says, he has gushed over the talents of the former AS Monaco star.

Saint-Maximin has given Premier League defenders nightmares since making the move to Newcastle from Nice in the summer of 2019. However, several injuries have prevented him from really hitting the elite heights in terms of his goals and assists production.

But Shelvey believes he has the ability to play for arguably the biggest football club in the world in the future.

“He is different gravy,” he told the Studs Up podcast with QPR forward Charlie Austin. “You can just give him the ball and sometimes he holds on to it for way too long but, honestly, he is unbelievable.

“He has got the ability to play for Real Madrid and teams like that, without a foul. He has been unlucky with his hamstrings and things like that. He is loved up here. He is absolutely adored up here. He is a flair player and he can just turn a game on its head.”

The Magpies are working over Saint-Maximin’s fitness after he was replaced with a groin injury in Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Wolves. The 23-year-old underwent a scan on Sunday ahead of a pivotal run of games in Newcastle’s battle to avoid relegation from the Premier League.
