Jose Mourinho mocks Dutch journalist with keychain after classic press conference

Jose Mourinho reminded us that he is still the king of banter following his exchange with a Dutch journalist on Thursday.

The Special One steered Roma to a place in the Europa League semi-finals at the expense of Eredivisie leaders Feyenoord.

Mourinho’s Roma overcame a 1-0 first-leg deficit to beat Feyenoord 4-1 after extra-time to secure a 4-2 aggregate win, setting up a last-four meeting with Bayer Leverkusen.

And it wasn’t just on the pitch where Mourinho reigned supreme as he brilliantly got one over a Dutch journalist in the post-match press conference.

The Portuguese coach offered a timely reminder of Roma’s 1-0 Europa Conference League final win over Feyenoord last May by handing the journalist a keychain of the trophy.

After last week’s first leg, Mourinho mocked the same journalist over the final success, after the Portuguese was quizzed on why his side were unable to find the net in Rotterdam.

“For the past 10 months you were crying,” Mourinho laughed. “But you shouldn’t cry.

“You know why, you cannot win the match that you lost. You lost a game, you cannot win that one. The only problem today, is that it is half-time. I promise you if I lose, I sleep, I don’t cry. And I will not go without sleeping for 10 months having nightmares.”

Nicolo Zaniolo’s solitary strike handed Mourinho a clean sweep of European trophies having already won both the Champions League and Europa League as a coach.

And after ending Roma’s 14-year wait for a trophy, the Giallorossi look primed to lift this season’s Europa League but know they have to see off Xabi Alonso’s ever-improving Leverkusen side in the semi-final.

If Roma sneak past their German opponents, Sevilla or Juventus await in the final in Budapest next month.

Despite an improved showing this season, Mourinho may have to win this season’s Europa League to play Champions League football next term.

Roma dropped one place to fourth in Serie A after Juventus were given a reprieve on their 15-point penalty for alleged false accounting.

The outcome has seen Juventus climb from seventh to third and as it stands, Roma face a battle with Champions League semi-finalists Inter and AC Milan for the remaining spot.
