Just In: Arsenal chief Edu backed to secure £45m Thomas Partey and £53m Houssem Aouar deal

Arsenal have been backed to sign both Houssem Aouar and Thomas Partey from Lyon and Atletico Madrid before the transfer window shutdown on October 5.

The Gunners are eager to bolster the spine of their side and are hoping to offload players to launch a big-money raid for a new midfielder.

Arsenal have already completed signed Pablo Mari, Cedric Soares, Willian, Gabriel Magalhaes, Dani Ceballos on loan and Runar Alex Runarsson so far this summer.

But Mikel Arteta is keen to strengthen his side further with the arrival of top-level midfielder, with Aouar and Partey topping his list.

Ideally, the Arsenal head coach like to bring both player to north London given their different profiles.

Atletico Madrid holder Partey is a midfield general while the versatile Aouar is more an attack-minded final-third creator.

But while Lyon are demand around £53m for Aouar and Atletico hold out for the Ghanaian’s £45million release clause to be met, Gunners icon Kevin Campbell is confident technical director Edu and manager Mikel Arteta will broker a deal for both of the pair.

Campbell told Genting Bet: ‘Central midfield is the key area for Arsenal and there’s talk of Thomas Partey and Houssem Aouar, from Lyon and I think they’re the two key positions.

‘Thomas Partey is a defensive type midfielder, but he’s got so much to his game, he can go box to box and really, he can do it all.

‘Aouar is a creative player who can play numerous positions across midfield and even across the front.

‘So, I think those are the two players been heavily linked to the club and are in talks of coming in.

‘I think Arteta and Edu will get it done, in the end. I’m not sure how quick it will be and it might be right up to the to the deadline date, but I think Arsenal will get it done.’
