L’Equipe rate Erling Haaland worst Man City player as Real Madrid stars savaged

Erling Haaland’s performance against Real Madrid was not rated too kindly by the notoriously stingy L’Equipe ratings.

The Norwegian played 89 minutes of City’s 4-0 Champions League semi-final victory over the European giants.

Haaland had a superb chance to open the scoring early on but was denied by the superb efforts of Thibaut Courtois.

Although he continued to be a dominant presence in the attack, his score of five out of 10 given by French outlet L’Equipe suggests it was far from his best appearance in a City shirt.

His rating of five is the lowest given out of all the players in Pep Guardiola’s side from Wednesday night.

Bernardo Silva, who scored twice, was awarded with an eight out of ten, as well as Ilkay Gundogan and Kyle Walker.

Madrid were nowhere near the level that many fans expected them to play at, and the players’ performances have been reflected in their scores.

Karim Benzema, Rodrygo, Luka Modric and Eduardo Camavinga were all given a three out of ten, with the rest getting either a four or five.

Unsurprisingly, Courtois’ performance earned him a seven out of ten, with the Belgian being their best player on the pitch by far.

Overall, City players averaged a 6.7 out of ten, a significant amount more than Madrid’s 3.9.

Such levels of performance were apparent to see at the Etihad Stadium as Pep Guardiola’s side ran riot.

Silva’s two goals in the first half meant the tie was all but won by half-time as they led 3-1 on aggregate.

This was extended to 5-1 thanks to Manuel Akanji’s header and Julian Alvarez’s finish in the second half.

Inter Milan are the only team left in the way of City winning the Champions League for the first time in their history.

Fans will travel to Istanbul for the competition’s showcase next month as their sights remain fully set on completing the treble in the final weeks of the season.
