Liverpool fan identifies problem position for Jurgen Klopp and insists club are ‘crying out’ for key player as striker Darwin Nunez criticised

A Liverpool fan believes they have identified the club’s problem position and can’t believe Jurgen Klopp has not addressed it.

It comes in the wake of Liverpool‘s 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace where Luis Diaz’s superb individual goal rescued a point after Wilfried Zaha fired Palace in front.

The Reds were later reduced to 10-men after the club’s only available striker, Darwin Nunez, was sent off for a headbutt on Joachim Andersen.

The result leaves Liverpool in 12th position, without a win from their opening two games with Manchester City already opening up a four-point advantage.

Following the game, Liverpool fan Tony told talkSPORT of his surprise at the club’s failure to address a problem position in the team, with just two weeks remaining in the transfer window.

“I’ve just been to the game, and before the game I believed we needed a couple of players because if we get a few injuries then our squad’s depleted,” he told the Sports Bar.

“We’re crying out for an attacking midfielder for me and I just can’t get my head around us not signing one.

“We lost [Divock] Origi and [Sadio] Mane but we’ve replaced one of them and we need another striker as well. We’re four points behind City already.”

The Reds’ stuttering start to the season has coincided with an ever-growing list of absentees, particularly in attacking areas, with Thiago Alcantara, Roberto Firmino and Diogo Jota all currently sidelined through injury.

This led to Klopp handing a first Premier League start to £85million signing Nunez after his cameo appearance and goal, in the opening day draw at Fulham.

The Uruguayan endured a frustrating night against Patrick Vieira’s men culminating in his second-half dismissal, leaving Liverpool fan Trevor less than impressed with the 22-year-old.

“I was screaming in the first half at Nunez. He had a chance at the end of the first half, he scuffed the shot, he then had another shot and he scuffed that as well,” Trevor told the Sports Bar.

“I know he’s got to bed in, but the thing is, does that man not know we have VAR? Why did he do that? Klopp will be fuming with that tonight.”

Liverpool head to Old Trafford to face a deflated Manchester United next Monday night – live on talkSPORT – with both sides chasing their first victory of the season.

Liverpool can ill-afford any more dropped points even at this early stage of the campaign and with Nunez facing suspension and no indication of the club’s injury list easing, the clash might not be as routine as last season’s 5-0 win.
