Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola revealed Sergio Aguero missed Sunday’s 3-0 victory over Birmingham after coming into contact with someone with COVID-19.

The 32-year-old was supposed to start the FA Cup third-round tie against Blues at the Etihad. But Guardiola admitted Aguero had no choice but to stay away.

Guardiola said: “He is isolating, unfortunately. He was in contact with one person who was positive. It is a pity. It was a perfect day to get minutes but unfortunately, he has to be a few days out.”

Aguero is out of contract at the end of the season, although the club have said they will not rush into a decision about his future.
