Martin Keown insists ‘we’d never hear the end of it’ if Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta did Roberto De Zerbi knee slide

Martin Keown took aim at Roberto De Zerbi for his over-exuberant celebrations in Brighton’s victory over Arsenal on Sunday.

The Seagulls secured a 3-0 win at the Emirates, all but ending the Gunners’ hopes of the securing the Premier League title.

It now means Manchester City are one win away from the title.

Brighton’s performance at the Emirates was one of the best of the season so far and De Zerbi loved what he saw, running down the touchline and sliding on his knees when their third went in.

Ex-Arsenal defender Keown believes should Arteta have done the same, the Spaniard would have been berated.

“I honestly feel that if Arteta did a knee-slide down the side of the pitch, we’d never hear the end of it. But for some reason it’s okay for De Zerbi to do it?” he told talkSPORT.

“I like the emotion on show, but I think because it’s Brighton who are inoffensive and they’re everyone’s second favourite team, we turn a blind eye to it.”

Keown then questioned whether De Zerbi should have picked up a booking for his celebrations, with footage showing him stepping foot onto the pitch at the Emirates.

“As a goalscorer, you take your shirt off and get a yellow card. Do you not think that if the manager comes racing onto the pitch like De Zerbi did with his celebration, is that not an automatic yellow card?”

Brighton took the lead through Julio Enciso early in the second half, before substitute Deniz Undav then doubled the lead.

Pervis Estupinan then grabbed a late third to leave Arsenal four points behind Man City, having played a game more.
