There’s a potentially exciting summer ahead for Liverpool, who are understood to be leading the race to sign Jude Bellingham.
The dynamic 18-year-old is reportedly valued at £90million thanks to his stunning performances with Borussia Dortmund.
A number of Premier League clubs have been linked with midfielder Bellingham, who’s been likened to Reds icon Steven Gerrard.
Liverpool have been urged to go all out for Bellingham, talkSPORT’s Gabby Agbonlahor saying the England international would be ‘worth every penny’ of the £90m.
They may strengthen going forward too with Paulo Dybala, who’s in the final year of his Juventus contract, potentially joining on a free transfer next summer.
Italian publication Calciomercato reports that it’s expected Juve will tie the Argentine down to a new deal, but Liverpool will be ready to swoop in if the agreement isn’t signed.
Recruiting Bellingham and Dybala would make Jurgen Klopp’s side even stronger than they already are, however, it may have to come at a very hefty price.
The past few transfer windows show Liverpool’s top brass have a business model which involves not spending to the same extent as the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain.
So if they want to spend big on Bellingham and also want to fit Dybala into the starting XI, they may be forced to sell one of their prized assets.
Mohamed Salah has come out and said he wants to stay at Liverpool, but recently expressed his pride at being linked with the likes of Barcelona as his contract situation continues to rumble on.
Klopp is relaxed about the situation but the cold, hard facts right now are that Liverpool are due to lose one of their greatest ever players in the summer of 2023 for absolutely nothing.
talkSPORT.com takes a look at how Liverpool could line up with Bellingham and Dybala, and if they do what many fans will see as unthinkable – sell Salah.
Bellingham would slot straight into Liverpool’s midfield three, competing against the likes of Jordan Henderson, Thiago Alcantara, Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Curtis Jones for a starting spot.
Up top is where it gets interesting. Dybala has experience in Salah’s position on the right but has been playing in a more central role in recent seasons.
This means Diogo Jota would be shifted out on the right if Salah was to leave and Dybala was to sign.
And we’re not alone in thinking Bellingham would be a perfect fit to slot right into the Liverpool midfield, with ex-Premier League star Agbonlahor saying the teen would be a huge upgrade on their current options.
“Bellingham would fit straight into that midfield,” said the former Aston Villa captain.
“[Naby] Keita, [Alex] Oxlade-Chamberlain – are they really the players that are going to keep Liverpool up there? I’m not sure.
“Bellingham’s guaranteed to start every game. You could picture it – [Jordan] Henderson, Fabinho, and Bellingham playing as a three.
“They can’t rely on Keita. He’s had a lot of injuries. Chamberlain seems to get a lot of injuries as well, so he’d be a perfect signing for Liverpool.”
