UFC legend Conor McGregor was in high spirits when he took to social media on Thursday after it was revealed he’s set to make his acting debut.
‘Notorious’ will star alongside Jake Gyllenhaal in Amazon Prime’s new re-imagining of the 1980s classic, Road House, which is set to begin filming in the Dominican Republic later this month.
Gyllenhaal will star as a former UFC fighter who takes a job as a bouncer at a road house in the Florida Keys but soon discovers everything is not what it seems.
While it is currently not known who McGregor will play in his acting debut, it has been confirmed it will be an original character and the charismatic Irishman will not be playing himself.
The clearly delighted 34-year-old took to Twitter to reflect on how far he’d come after booking his first movie role and poke some fun at one of his biggest rivals who he ‘mistook’ for UFC heavyweight legend Gabriel Gonzaga.
“Throwback to me vs Gabriel Gonzaga in Japan, I can’t believe I’m about to hit Hollywood. I will do you all proud,” McGregor wrote alongside a picture of him punching Diaz in the face.
McGregor then confirmed ‘I’ll be back’ as he turned his attention to Hollywood legend Arnold Schwarzenegger who he hopes to have pleased with his move into the acting world.
‘Mystic Mac’ bonded with The Terminator actor back in 2013 when he suffered an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear against Max Holloway before seeking the help of Schwarzenegger’s physical therapist girlfriend, Heather Milligan, who is also helping him recover from the injury he suffered at UFC 264.
“I’ll be back! For the sake of humankind! I must return! Happy birthday my man, Arnold Schwarzenegger! Hope you and H are proud of my recovery / work and my latest move on the board. Fun times ahead, bring it.”
McGregor has been training ‘all facets of MMA’ recently after suffering a fractured tibia and fibula in July 2021. The MMA superstar is expected to make his comeback later this year or in the first quarter of 2023.
It’s currently unclear how long he’ll be filming Road House or if it will delay his return to the Octagon.
