Top-class flat racing goes on throughout the summer and the Ebor Festival held at York racecourse is among the best.
The highlights include a plethora of group racing including the Group 1 British Champions Series.
The festival kicks off on Wednesday, August 17 with arguably the biggest, the Juddmonte International Stakes.
Which will feature eight prominent and the best horses including the top-rated horse in the world, Baaeed.
They will compete for £567,100 in prize money over a distance of 1m2½f.
Wednesday also features two other top-class races the Acomb Stakes (Group 3) and the Group 2 Great Voltigeur Stakes.
Thursday sees the Sky Bet Lowther Stakes (Group 2), the Darley Yorkshire Oaks (Group 1) while Friday holds the Lonsdale Cup, Gimcrack Stakes, and the Nunthorpe Stakes among a variety of Class 2 handicaps.
Saturday, punters will be spoilt to even more group contests, York Stakes and the feature race of the festival which is also a Class 2 event, the namesake festival race, the Ebor Handicap.
Juddmonte International Stakes betting tip (Wednesday)
3.35: Baaeed 2/5
This will be the first time the top-rated horse in the world has taken on this distance.
Usually seen over 1m, this route to retirement this year sees a similar path taken by the great Frankel.
The William Haggas-trained horse has always won well aside from winning by just a neck to Palace Pier at Ascot in October.
And he’s never really had to go 100%, battle to the front ever since justifying odds-on favouritism continually.
He’s now earned over £2m for connections and aims to add even more to his illustrious career.
If this trip doesn’t suit and you don’t want to take on a 2/5 shot, the three-year-old Native Trail could be the one to back each-way at 7’s.
Lowther Stakes betting tip (Thursday)
1.50: Dramatised 6/5
This is an exceptionally tough race to call if the favourite, Dramatised, trained by Karl Burke doesn’t deliver what’s expected.
To come out at this short a price goes to show just how good her two wins have proven to be.
She won by 4l in a Class 3 on her debut and then went on to win at Royal Ascot by nearly two lengths beating 20 other runners.
Many of those have gone on to win since and a few of the runners have faced each other already, including Lezoo, Meditate, Kinta and Mawj.
Darley Yorkshire Oaks betting tip (Thursday)
3.35: Alpinista 2/1
At this price on a horse that’s already proven she can do it at a variety of tracks across the world is worth getting on.
She was underestimated and overpriced at Saint Cloud last time out going off at close to 8/1 and the mare by Frankel isn’t finished yet having won all of her last six races.
Four of those have been Group 1’s and it’s not been too close either when she has won usually defeating her opponents by a minimum of a length.
Sir Mark Prescott trains the favourite and will have to go off carrying 9lb more than some of the younger rivals and promising ‘newcomers’ Magical Lagoon and Tuesday.
But is only rated 5lb higher than when winning at Haydock in July 2021.
Lonsdale Cup betting tip (Friday)
2.25: Kyprios 10/3
It’s hard to imagine Kyprios going off anywhere near this price but his latest victory only came by a neck to the huge Stradivarius.
Stradivarius was unlucky two starts ago, when also beaten by Kyprios by over 1l, as he was forced to go on the outside.
Now the eight-year-old is verging on retirement and connections know he’s still got the speed and stamina as he showed at Goodwood.
But Kyprios keeps finding more and more, developing into a diverse stayer, taking on all courses and a variety of distances.
Trueshan proved he doesn’t necessarily need soft ground but it’s likely to stay on the firm side and will therefore make it tough for him to be on the same terms as Stradivarius and Kyprios.
Gimrack Stakes betting tip (Friday)
2.25: Little Big Bear 5/1
This is a huge antepost price for the two-year-old who has already won four huge races including at Curragh by a giant 7l.
And that was a Group 1 so this Group 2 contest should be in easy enough and be amongst the first in the finish.
There’s 35 early entries and only a maximum of 22 runners so it’s worth backing a horse with group experience over some more unexposed sorts.
